It has been a slow start into the New Year here at our house. J’s homeschool does not officially start until the 9th, and L’s preschool does not kick off our new curriculum until the 9th. Which means it is slow moving around here. Just this morning for the first time all vacation we all slept in until 8:30am. I could hardly believe my eyes when I read the clock, but knowing we had no where to go meant enjoying both kids in bed while fireman made coffee.
I love slow. I was created to be at a slower pace then most. My metabolism runs slow, my mind processes information longer then average (which is not to say I am not an above average learner), and I would like nothing more then to sit. I have been in a battle over this reality my entire life, but this week I am enjoying the pace.
Forcing myself to become faster takes a lot of effort. I get up before the rest of my family, shower, dress and make sure I’ve had one cup of coffee. I workout endlessly to boost my slow metabolism and drink gallons of water to fight off fatigue, I read books teaching me the techniques of fast paced people and in the end after one week of just being me I like being slow and steady.
Next week will come and I’ll wake up before everyone, and life will resume it’s not so slow pace, but I’ll have a wonderful memory of this week. A week where no one had to be anywhere and I did not need anything.
How is your first New Year week going?
